Dr. Chencho Dorji is Bhutan’s first trained psychiatrist and a pioneer in mental health services development in his country. He has MD in Psychiatry qualification from Sri Lanka and further training in several countries including India, Australia and the US. He was drawn to this profession from his personal exposure to a spate of mental disorders in his own family at an early age. During his illustrious career spanning more than 30 years and against enormous challenges, not only was he able to address his own family problems, he was able to treat thousands of Bhutanese individuals with mental health problems and lay the foundation for modern mental health care services in his country.
