“Inclusive live music unites people, breaks down prejudice, and improves society through diversity.” Thorsten, Hesse, Project Coordinator, Pinc Music

Handiclapped – Kultur Barrierefrei e.V. is a Berlin-based non-profit event management agency specializing in fully accessible concerts. In 2021 it launched Pinc Music, an online platform that features inclusive bands, choirs, DJs, and solo musicians with disabilities from all over Germany. Pinc Music uses multimedia content and sound samples, high-quality photographs, as well as background stories to support them in getting bookings from concert organizers and festivals. By 2024 the platform featured 97 acts with more than 300 musicians, and had more than 25,000 website visits per year.

Problems Targeted

In Germany there are an estimated 300 inclusive bands, plus choirs, DJ teams, and solo musicians with disabilities, but they have little visibility.

Solution, Innovation and Impact

Handiclapped – Kultur Barrierefrei e.V. launched Pinc Music in 2021, a unique and free online platform focused on disability-inclusive bands as well as choirs, DJ teams, and solo musicians with disabilities from throughout Germany. All the musicians can be found, researched, and booked in one place, and the minimum requirement for listing on the platform is one person with a disability per act. Handiclapped staff support potential clients to registration via a barrier-free form. Pinc Music – which operates together with MusicTech Germany, the German music technology association – presents the acts with pictures, often videos and sound samples, to help potential clients assess the bands, as well as all the information and contact details needed to book them.In 2021, Pinc Music started with 24 bands and an estimated 60 musicians with disabilities; today the platform features 97 acts with well over 300 musicians. Handiclapped constantly runs new projects, such as the now ongoing ‘music and fashion’ concert/workshop series. It also promotes Wing Buddy – a digital matchmaking-tool to find companions for attending cultural events – for which a prototype and concept exists, but which needs a larger organization to run it.

Funding, Outlook and Transferability

Pinc Music received initial funding from the Kulturstiftung der Länder and Initiative Musik. In October 2024 it launched a project to partner the Pinc Music bands with some 100 organizations and freelancers in the music industry (musicians, sound engineers, promoters, and others) who support inclusive acts in their work. The project is funded from Aktion Mensch, a large-scale grant-funding institution in Germany. (Zero Project Awardee 2025)
