Support Girona
Support-Girona is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to providing legal and social support to individuals of all ages with any type of disability (including psychosocial, intellectual, or age-related disabilities). It also ensures adequate and effective safeguards to prevent abuse by others.
It is the leading organization of its kind in Catalonia, supporting over 1,400 individuals. This is due to its policy of never refusing any case, no matter how complex the person's circumstances or environment may be. The organization often works in extreme situations, with 34% of the cases it manages being of medium or high complexity.
The primary goal of Support-Girona is to defend, promote, develop, and expand the human rights of the people it supports while helping them pursue well-being, dignity, and autonomy through legal and social support, always respecting their will, wishes, and preferences.
Its area of operation is the Girona region.
Support-Girona provides legal capacity support mechanisms through judicial or notarial appointment, or by the individual’s own designation. This is achieved through a team of over 140 professionals, including social workers, educators, psychologists, lawyers, and economists, among others.
The foundation also offers an Advisory Service (not funded by the government) for organizations, professionals, and individuals, as well as the "Future Support Planning Service," which aims to anticipate future needs for people with disabilities or their families. Another key objective is to promote the creation of programs, resources, and social facilities to improve the quality of life of individuals.
Support-Girona operates in a personalized and collaborative manner, working closely with public health and social services, as well as various organizations, professionals, or individuals in the network surrounding those it supports. It strives to provide the assistance needed to help individuals make and manage decisions in all areas of their lives.
Support-Girona’s work is predominantly social and deeply person-centered. All actions are coordinated with the individual and, when appropriate, with their families. The organization also collaborates in a multidisciplinary manner with external professionals from public, private, social, health, or judicial services. Coordination across its social, economic, patrimonial, and legal departments is essential to ensuring the individuals’ rights and exercising their legal capacity.
Support-Girona’s reference standard is the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and it aligns its work with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.
