The Zero Project Team is deeply saddened to share the passing of Bernadette Feuerstein, a remarkable leader of the Independent Living movement in Austria and a longstanding, trusted advisor to the Zero Project.

A portrait photo of Bernadette in a black frame, followed by the words "in Memoriam Bernadette Feuerstein".

Bernadette will be remembered for her decades of tireless commitment to advancing the rights of persons with disabilities in Austria across various roles, organizations, and initiatives. She has been a trusted voice for the Zero Project since 2009, when she was part of the initial workshops that helped steer and shape our initiative at its conception.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Bernadette, who has been a close partner and friend for many years. She has been a constructive voice and steadfast support for the Zero Project since the beginning—for instance, during our annual Parliament Event, where she contributed her expertise as a representative of Austria’s Independent Living movement. Our thoughts are with Bernadette’s family during this difficult time.”

– Michael Pichler, Director, Zero Project Austria
