A Global Exchange of Ideas

Hosted by our partner Youth4Jobs in collaboration with the Hans Foundation and Axis Bank Foundation, the event brought together nearly 200 participants, including 40 local and 14 international speakers, to explore crucial topics such as assistive technology, women entrepreneurs with disabilities, and building bridges between India and Africa.

An international delegation of 40 participants from 10 countries, including Zero Project Awardees and experts from across sectors, gathered in India to strengthen connections between local and global innovation ecosystems.

“As we gather for the Zero Project India Conference 2024, we have a unique opportunity to build bridges between our global network of experts committed to removing barriers for persons with disabilities and the incredible innovations emerging from India and beyond. Through a collaborative approach and sharing scalable solutions, we can drive real progress in making the world more inclusive and accessible.” Michael Fembek, CEO of the Zero Project.

Addressing Critical Challenges

The need for meaningful employment opportunities for disabled individuals was a key theme of the conference. India is home to over 63 million people with disabilities, but meaningful employment remains a significant challenge. Despite legislative mandates for job reservations, many companies still fall short of the 4% target set for hiring persons with disabilities.

"While policy progress is evident, we must focus on implementation and accountability. Collaboration and grassroots innovations are key to transforming lives and ensuring resources reach where they are most needed." Meera Shenoy, CEO of Youth4Jobs.

A Catalyst for Change

The Zero Project India Conference 2024 has laid the groundwork for future collaborations and action.

“The Zero Project India Conference 2024 is not just an event—it's a catalyst for change. Innovation is key to shaping an inclusive society, whether in education, the arts, employment, or technology-driven solutions. Together, we can create pathways that ensure no one is left behind. The momentum we’ve generated here today is just the beginning; it’s crucial that we carry this spirit of collaboration forward, implementing the ideas and strategies discussed to truly transform the lives of people with disabilities and create a more inclusive future for all.” Martin Essl, Founder of the Essl Foundation and the Zero Project.
