Persons with disabilities have a legal claim to participate in all aspects of society. Maximizing the involvement in this process means self-representation, the foundation of DPOs, and strategic litigation to name some examples.

The rights-based approach underpins the key principles of human rights: Participation, Accountability, Non-discrimination and Equality, Empowerment and Legality.

This gives opportunity to everyone to actively participate in all spheres of society on an equal basis. In issues such as independent living and governance, persons with disability must be heard of their choices and must be consulted for their needs especially when creating policies that might hinder them to take part in their role in society regardless of their gender identity, religious beliefs, political affiliation, social class, or ethnic background.

Nominations shall not contain:

  • Programs for persons with disabilities without the participation of persons with disabilities.
