Seco Chile

Eco-car wash service, where most of the workers are people with disabilities. The service has been designed for anyone, regardless of age, gender, disability, as long as they are physically able to wash a car. The car wash service is offered to corporate clients, not the general public, though a home washing service is offered in Santiago. A flexible labour management system is implemented and requests for the service are made through registrations, so the worker and supervisor know the workload each day ahead of time.

IMPACT

Seco Chile gives employment opportunities to people who have not had the opportunity to formalize their studies – no experience is required, there is training before someone starts work. 

In the last 3 years we have grown in terms of number of customers (from 13 to 45), in number of employees (from 95 to more than 300), and the presence has expanded to almost all major cities in Chile, between Iquique and Punta Arenas. An even percentage has been maintained in the types of disability, with physical and intellectual disability being the most represented. There is a high participation of women. There is a group of 12 people with disabilities, who are working as supervisors. 

The product is eco-friendly and biodegradable certified. We are the first inclusive company of its kind in Chile in the field of eco-washing of vehicles. We support the labor integration and inclusion of people with disabilities. We work with all types of disability, regardless of whether it is mild or moderate.

REPLICATION EXPERIENCE

We have not replicated our innovation yet, but it is a strategic priority and we have a clear idea about what to replicate, where and with which partners 

We want to develop and start up a car wash service, using the SecoChile model, in any large city where large companies are established. Potential partners might be entrepreneurs, or big companies that want to develop this service throughout their branches in many countries. Or institutions that are focused on the labor inclusion of people with disabilities. 

ORGANISATIONAL CAPACITY AND STRATEGY

The administration staff of Seco Chile is 9 workers. We have a project owner for this program, with the necessary skills and seniority:

The project was designed so that it could be replicated – we are looking to implement the service in other countries and partner with a large company with a global presence and develop a program so that in all its branches throughout the world the inclusive eco-washing service can be developed. Find a partner that supports the search for new opportunities in companies, or investors interested in replicating this business model. There is a franchise model. 

MOTIVATION

It’s a good opportunity to learn about tools that allow the replication of an undertaking in other countries 

What motivates me to participate in this program is that the business model is quite easy, there should not be significant investments. It is aimed at that any person with a disability, regardless of age and sex, who can do the work of washing a car. 

We want to learn how to identify and approach potential partners.
