                Supported housing for persons with complex disabilities

                People with intellectual disabilities train peers to use digital media and ICT

                PIKSL Mobil is a peer-to-peer teaching approach. People with intellectual disabilities are trained in the use of digital technology and in training other people. Equipped with technical equipment, these trainers then teach other persons with disabilities and seniors living in residential facilities to use digital media independently.

                Housing and life-skills programme for adults with intellectual disabilities

                In 2008, Mexico’s Fundación Inclúyeme began operating a programme that enables adults with intellectual disabilities to live independently by providing inclusive and serviced housing, support in finding employment, and recreational activities. By 2022 up to 3,000 people have benefited from the programme.

                Peer-led organization of persons with psychosocial disabilities in sub-Saharan Africa

                 

                Since 2017 the National Self-Advocacy in Uganda (UNSAI) has been assisting people with psychosocial disabilities with ‘Support my Choice’, a programme that enables participants who would otherwise be institutionalized to live independently, benefitting 150 people to date.
