PASBLUE- acoustic traffic lights for safe crossroads
“This product is a really smart solution for an accessible smart city.”
|Name of Innovative Practice:||PASBLUE|
|Organisation:||FUNDOSA ACCESIBILIDAD, SA|
|Beneficiaries targeted||Blind or visually impaired persons|
|Approach/ model/ solution:||Solution for traffic lights, producing hearable signs for users activated via Bluetooth|
The project is intended to allow visually impaired persons to make safe crossings on the city streets, with on demand activated acoustic traffic lights.
PASBLUE is fully integrated into a Green Pedestrian LED traffic light optics which looks exactly as non accessible ones. This approach avoids the need to add extra mechanical devices in order to get it accessible. No sound is emitted by the device, except when users explicitly require it. PASBLUE can be activated wireless via a remote control or a standard Bluetooth connection. So, the final way to activate PASBLUE is a user choice, but in no case there´s some need to add extra devices (like push buttons) at the traffic light. Once PASBLUE has been activated (via remote control or Bluetooth), it remains in an orientation status. During this orientation status, PASBLUE emits special sounds that allows the user to exactly locate the beginning of the cross way. Moreover, PASBLUE can emit spoken info messages like, for example, the street name.
CURRENT SITUATION & OUTLOOK
PASBLUE is now in full production with more than 1.000 devices installed on different Spanish cities.
