New York, New York, New York

More than 750 participants attended last week the 8th session of the Conference of States Parties (CoSP) to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in New York – we did too!

From our side Dr Michael Fembek (Head), Wilfried Kainz (Coordinator) and Tom Butcher (NY representative) were attending.

What is so special about the “CoSP”?

Well, it is a very unique gathering organized by UN DESA which gathers an unprecedented amount of disability experts from all around the world – from UN to NGO and foundation representatives, from academics to politicians and parliamentarians, from diplomats to business representatives and consultants – the event is open to anyone.

Networking

So the wonderful thing is that at that conference you can connect to the right people. Our team indeed held over 30 private meetings, including with Judy Heumann, Javed Abidi (DPI), Axel Leblois (G3ict), Diane Samarasan (DRF) and many more!! With some of them we made photos, you will find them below.

Forums, side events, coffee corner debates, ….

This year our team presented the Zero Project’s results, in particular our Innovative Practices and Policies, at four different events – for more details see our press release:

  • Side Event of the OHCHR on THE RIGHT OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES TO LIVE INDEPENDENTLY
  • GAATES Forum on ACCESSIBILITY AND EDUCATION: WHICH CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS?
  • Forum on Disability and Development of UN DESA: HOW TO OPERATIONALIZE THE POST-2015 AGENDA?
  • Side Event of DPI Arab ACCESSIBILITY AND EMPLOYMENT: ARAB YOUTH WITH DISABILITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES OF EMPOWERMENT AND INCLUSION

Therefore our general resumé is that CoSP is truly a great event – and we look forward to follow up on the many contacts we have made!
