Is there reliable information about the accessibility of tourism, sport and leisure services and facilities in your city?
Please consider “reliable” as the quality of the information that allows the user to decide to use the service/facility and once there, to be able to use the service/facility as described in the information. If “Yes” or “Yes, with qualifications”, you may consider comment about who is providing the information (public authorities, private companies, users) that is more reliable. If “Yes, with qualifications”, please also describe which services or facilities are the ones about you find the most reliable information (i.e. availability of hotel rooms, sport centers, museums, etc.).
Relates to Convention Article:
- No.9, Accessibility
- No.21, Freedom of expression and opinion, and access to information
- No.30, Participation in cultural life, recreation, leisure and sport
Article 30 prescribes that “with a view to enabling persons with disabilities to participate on an equal basis with others in recreational, leisure and sporting activities, States Parties shall take appropriate measures…to ensure that persons with disabilities have access to sporting, recreational and tourism venues”.
As some experts highlight, a major barrier to real access to tourism, sport and leisure services and facilities is the lack of reliable information. The additional remarks also ask for a description of the reality of everyday life.
From the map it can be clearly seen that information on tourism and leisure facilities are mostly available in the most developed countries.
